Gears of War: E-Day Reclaims Its Horror Roots This October

The legendary franchise is officially going back to where the nightmare started. The Coalition has locked in an October 6, 2026 release date for Gears of War: E-Day, and it’s easily shaping up to be one of the biggest, most intense games of the year.
Instead of pushing forward with Gears 6, the developers are taking us fourteen years before the original game. We will be stepping back into the boots of a younger Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago on Emergence Day—the terrifying moment the Locust Horde first burst from the ground to tear humanity apart.
Rebuilt from Scratch in Unreal Engine 5
The Coalition has completely rebuilt the game’s foundation to focus heavily on the atmospheric horror and dark spaces that made the original 2006 classic so unforgettable. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, expect dynamic shadows, destructible environments, and a much more grounded, brutal feel to the combat.
PC players are also getting a massive upgrade, with Xbox confirming an exclusive partnership with NVIDIA to bring DLSS 4.5 and hardware ray tracing straight to the game at launch.

Multiplayer & Open Beta
If you can’t wait until October, pre-ordering the game unlocks early access to the Open Beta running from August 6 to August 10, 2026. The full game will feature a refined Versus PvP alongside a completely reimagined version of the classic PvE mode, now called Horde Siege.
Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it will be available Day One on Xbox Game Pass.
