Get ready to lose your sanity all over again. Frogwares has officially locked in an August 18, 2026 release date for The Sinking City 2, and they are changing the formula in a massive way.
While the first game was a sprawling, semi-open-world detective adventure, the sequel is stripping things back to deliver a tight, terrifying, third-person survival horror experience heavily inspired by Resident Evil.
Set in a supernatural, flooded vision of 1920s America, you will step into the boots of a brand-new protagonist, Calvin Rafferty. He has ventured into the infamous, derelict city of Arkham to rescue the woman he loves, but the streets are completely submerged and overrun by “The Slither”—eldritch abominations that possess and warp the bodies of the dead.
Because Frogwares wants this game to appeal to hardcore horror fans, the detective mechanics are now entirely optional. You don’t have to solve puzzles to finish the story—but taking the time to investigate mysterious side cases will reward you with crucial weapon upgrades, shortcuts, and scarce survival supplies.
The developers have also rebuilt the game from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, meaning the water effects, rising floods, and cosmic entities look deeply unsettling and hyper-realistic.
Can’t wait until next month? A playable demo is currently live right now on Steam if you want to test out your laptop or PC specs. The full game drops on August 18, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-ordering the Premium Edition unlocks 24-hour advanced access starting August 17.
